Gingival crown lengthening is a procedure to remove excess gum tissue to expose more of the tooth structure. It is done for restorative or esthetic purposes.
The crown lengthening procedure usually takes 1-2 hours depending on the amount of gum tissue that needs removal and the number of teeth involved.
The area being worked on is numbed with local anesthesia so the lengthening procedure itself is not painful. Some mild discomfort may occur during the healing period.
